October 17, 2023: London, UK: London Calling - Savoring British Delicacies on a Whirlwind Stopover
Hello, dear readers!
Unexpected turns in travel itineraries can lead to some of the most delightful discoveries. Such was the case when I found myself with a few hours to spare in the magnificent city of London, en route to our next mysterious destination.
The gray London skies did little to dampen my enthusiasm as I set out on a self-imposed culinary quest. My first stop was a traditional English pub nestled amidst the bustling streets. There, under the warm, ambient lighting and surrounded by locals engrossed in their midday banter, I indulged in a hearty steak and kidney pie. The flaky crust, the succulent meat, and the rich gravy painted a delectable picture of British cuisine.
But London’s culinary journey wouldn't be complete without the famed fish and chips. A little eatery by the riverside offered me this crispy delight, accompanied by a generous dollop of tartar sauce and a side of mushy peas - a true British classic.
And what's a visit to England without tea? I found a quaint tea shop where I savored a cup of Earl Grey, paired with freshly baked scones, clotted cream, and strawberry jam. The elegance of this simple meal, coupled with the shop's Victorian decor, transported me back in time.
I managed a brief stroll along the River Thames, taking in the splendid views of the London Eye, Tower Bridge, and the historic silhouette of the Houses of Parliament. The river, with its quiet majesty, was a testament to the stories and histories it has witnessed.
As my time in London drew to a close, the city left an indelible mark on my culinary heart. This layover, though brief, was rich in flavors, history, and the unmistakable charm that only London can offer.
Now, as I buckle up for the next leg of my journey, the anticipation builds. What will our next destination bring? Stay with me, and all shall be unveiled.
Cheerio and till next time,
Buster Vanray
