October 14, 2023: Mexico City, Mexico: Capital Culinary Closures: A Grand Finale in Mexico City
Greetings from the heart of Mexico!
As my Tulum Table tour marches onward, I'm now immersed in the vibrant chaos and charm of Mexico City. A sprawling metropolis where every corner is an ode to its culinary heritage, blending ancient traditions with a dash of urban modernity.
The streets are alive with the scent of tlacoyos topped with nopales and queso fresco, juxtaposed by upscale restaurants in Roma Norte serving sophisticated dishes like pulpo a la gallega – tender octopus slices with a smoky paprika touch. It's a city where tacos al pastor, carved off the spit and served with a slice of pineapple, coexist harmoniously with gourmet interpretations of escamoles - the famed ant larvae, often dubbed as 'Mexican caviar', sautéed in butter and herbs.
Every alley, market, and plaza in Mexico City tells a story. From the passionate barista in Coyoacán explaining the nuances of Oaxacan coffee to the seasoned chef in a Condesa bistro, reinventing traditional recipes with a global twist, the narrative is clear: Mexico City is a haven for food lovers, and it embraces everyone with open arms.
With several days ahead in this culinary paradise, I'm eager to share with you all the flavors, textures, and tales that this city has to offer, and how they inspire the ethos behind Tulum Table.
Stay tuned for more delicious tales,
Buster Vanray
